6 Also laughing, Sangjenim said, “You two certainly received your wishes quickly.
상제님께서도 웃으시며 “너희는 속히도 소원을 이루었구나.” 하시고
7 Surely, Nam-gi speaks as well as any Japanese, and Yeong-seo’s talent is unparalleled among actors.” At these words, Yeong-seo and Nam-gi both came to their senses and felt ashamed.
“남기의 말은 일본인과 틀림이 없고 영서의 재주는 배우 중에 독보(獨步)가 되겠구나.” 하시니 두 사람이 비로소 정신을 차리고 부끄러워하거늘
8 Sangjenim then declared, “One learning to become a noble human must maintain a broad and just mind and know when to restrain themselves;
상제님께서 이르시기를 “대인(大人)을 배우는 자 마땅히 마음을 정대히 하여 그칠 곳을 알아야 할 것이요
9 they must never make their words hollow by harboring even a single immoderate thought.”
한 가지라도 분수 밖의 생각을 가져 실없는 말을 해서는 안 되느니라.” 하시니라.
10 He continued, “If people are corrupt on the inside but pretend to be otherwise on the outside, how will people ever know the difference?
또 말씀하시기를 “안으로는 불량하고 겉으로만 꾸며대면 누가 능히 분별하리오.
11 Demonstrate your inner nature in your appearance, conduct, and speech. Behaving pretentiously by adopting an air of dignity and formality is itself a wickedness.”
사람이 몸가짐과 처사와 어습(語習)을 제 본성대로 할 것이요, 억지로 꾸며서 점잔과 교식을 내는 것은 삿된 일이니라.” 하시니라.

pretentious [priténʃǝs] 우쭐대는, 뽐내는
: they try to seem important or significant, but you do not think that they are.
사람들은 그렇게 생각하지 않는데 자기가 중요한 사람인 것처럼 보이려고 하는 이들
ex) I want to learn about art, and be involved in art, and try not be pretentious.
저는 예술에 대해 배우고, 예술에 참여하고, 그러면서도 겸손한 사람이 되고 싶습니다.

general impression.
