친일시인 미당 서정주

친일시인 미당 미당 서정주(1915-2000)는 1915년 전라북도 고창에서 출생했다. 1925년 줄포보통학교를 수료하고, 1929년 중앙고등보통학교 입학, 1930년 광주학생운동과 관련해 구속되었다가 기소유예로 석방, 이로 인해 퇴학당했다. 1931년 고창고등보통학교에 편입했으나 곧 자퇴, 방랑을 하다가 고승 박한영 문하에 입산했다. 서울 대한불교전문강원에 입학해 중앙불교전문학교에서 수업했다.
서정주의 친일작품은 특히 1943년에 많이 발표되는데, 그 배경에는 같은 해에 최재서와 함께 일본군 종군기자로 사병의 군복을 입고 취재를 다녔다.
미당 시 문학관은 전라북도 고창군 부안면 질마재로 2-8에 있다.
