One Should Chant a Mantra with an Understanding of Its Fundamental Meaning

주문의 근본 정신을 알고 읽어야

Taemonim one day said to the disciples, 

“I wonder if the followers grasp the fundamental meaning of each mantra as they chant them.”

하루는 태모님께서 성도들에게 말씀하시기를 

“신도들이 각 주문의 근본정신이나 알고 읽는지 모르겠다.” 하시고

Taemonim then commanded Go Min-hwan, “ To fully experience the power of mantras, one should chant a mantrawith an understanding of its fundamental meaning. Contemplate and record the essence of each mantra.” 

고민환에게 명하여 “각 주문의 근본정신을 알고 읽어야 주력(呪力)이 확고히 서나니 각 주문의 정신을 생각하여 기록하라.” 하시므로

Min-hwan did so and presented the written record of his mantra contemplation to Taemonim. “Well done,” She said. “Instruct the followers who do not understand—make sure that they understand.”

Min-hwan had written:

민환이 기록하여 올리매 “잘하였구나.” 하시며 “알지 못하는 신도들에게 설명하여 알도록 하라.” 명하시니 그 글은 이러하니라.

The Taeeulju Mantra brings serenity to the mind and spirit and to the heavenly soul and the earthly soul, allowing one to experience the resplendence of the holy spirits and communion with the spirit realm. It is the mantra that will save the world’s people.

태을주(太乙呪)는 심령(心靈)과 혼백(魂魄)을 안정케 하여 성령을 접하게 하고 신도(神道)를 통하게 하며 천하 창생을 건지는 주문이니라.

The Sicheonjuju Mantra, the root mantra of the upreme Dao of Mugeuk, is a mantra for receiving a heavenly mandate. The mantra avows that we must faithfully revere Sangjenim and serve Him as though He were our own parent.

시천주주(侍天主呪)는 천명을 받는 무극대도(無極大道)의 본원주(本源呪)니 상제님을 지극히 공경하고 내 부모와 같이 모시라는 주문이라.

The Jinaekju Mantra enables humanity to receive heaven and earth’s eternal sustenance and lessings, life and longevity.

진액주(津液呪)는 세계 창생으로 하여금 천지의 영원한 복록과 수명을 받아내리게 하는 주문이라.

The Gwanseongju Mantra brings calm by defeating iniquity and expelling all demons. 

관성주(關聖呪)는 삿됨을 제하고 모든 마(魔)를 끌러 안정케 하는 주문이라.

The Chilseonggyeong Scripture Mantra is a sacred mantra that summons blessings, defeats misfortune, and

grants a healthy body and eternal life. 

칠성경(七星經)은 복을 이끌고 재앙을 없애 주며 영원한 생명과 건강한 몸을 얻게 하는 신령스런 주문이라.

The Jisinju Mantra placates the guardian spirits of houses.

지신주(地神呪)는 각 지방의 가택(家宅)을 수호하는 신명을 안정케 하는 주문이라.

“The Classical Text of The Great Learning” is a sacred text that is a standard for the governing of one’s nation; the guiding of one’s family; and the cultivating of one’s body, mind, will, and wisdom.

대학우경장(大學右經章)은 나라를 다스리고 집안을 거느리며 몸과 마음, 의지와 지혜를 수련하는 데 요법(要法)이 되는 경문(經文)이라.

The “Preface to Shuzhuan” is a splendid text for cultivating and purifying one’s mindset to harmoniously balance dao and rule.

서전서문(書傳序文)은 도(道)와 다스림(政)의 정신을 조화롭게 다스려 나갈 수 있는 심법을 닦는 데 좋은 글이라.

The “Preface to the Book of Change” is a splendid text for understanding the ways of heaven and earth, the sun and moon, yin and yang, the four seasons, and spirits, to discern between fortune and misfortune in the making of decisions.(ED 11:139)

주역서문(周易序文)은 천지일월, 음양, 사시(四時)와 귀신(鬼神)과 합덕(合德)하여 그 길흉함을 정하여 이를 판명하는 좋은 글이라. (도전 11:180:1-12)
