1 “Even if you have extended a benevolent deed to another, it cannot be deemed a virtue if you expect something in return,

다른 사람에게 공덕(功德)을 베풀었을지라도 그 대가를 받으려고 생각하면 덕(德)이 되지 못하며

2 and virtue evaporates if you speak of your deed. Among the virtues, selfless virtue is the greatest.

번거로운 소리를 내면 그 또한 덕이 사라지나니 덕은 음덕(陰德)이 크니라.

3 “Your Father came to this world and returned to heaven after conducting his work for the renewal of humanity.

너희 아버지가 이 세상에 오시어 인간사업 하고 가셨느니라.

4 Forsaking this virtue or that virtue, I only confer upon you selfless virtue;

이 덕 저 덕 다 버리고 음덕 하나 보내노니

5 since you must follow your Father, live by selfless virtue.

너희가 아버지를 따라야 할진댄 음덕을 주장하라.

6 Others will benefit, but what remains for you will still be vast.”
